I have a 54 vette with the V.I.N. of E 54001142. The engine serial # is 3733949 and is located on the right side of the block just in front of the fuel pump mount. According to an old vette #s book it should be 3835911. The casting date is A 13 3 which I am told would be Jan. of 53 but the engine # does not match that year vette either. It was the 142nd car made according to the V.I.N. All other #s so far match i.e. cyl. head, carbs. Any info regarding what may have caused this discrepency i.e. (not enough vette blocks made yet) and where this block came from would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help.
