HOW MUCH FLUID ISA IN A TH 400 TRANSMISSION? I'M ABOUT TO CHANGE THE GASKET AND FILTER AND HAVE NO CLUE.

you will probably want to have six quarts on hand...
there are 2 designs of th400 oil filters.. i don't know if this effects you..
if you pour the old oil into a gallon jug you will know closet to how much you need to put back in..
be sure to work the transmission into gear when you get 4 quarts in.. then into reverse.. then foot on the brake and into park... check fluid.. keep adding..
the low mark to the full mark on the transmission dip stick is HALF a quart .. not a whole quart..
after the change.. pour in 3 quarts... start the engine ... start pouring more in...

What year is it?
Does it have a deep pan? Measure it if it's approx 4"to 5" deep it could be a deep pan. Just a suggestion install a drain plug kit about $5.00
