what would be a good radio and speaker replacement for a 1992 corvette? My bose system does not work and it looks like the previous owner damaged the speakers when working on them.

coldbeaver New User | Posts: 2 | Joined: 11/11 Posted: 12/06/11 10:40 AM there is a tuner box, i believe it will be located under the glove compartment that is called a CDM box. this usually goes bad and can be sent off to get repaired. you will be better off ordering a new radio, tuner bypass harness and installing new speakers. the original speakers are 2 ohm from what i have read and if you put a 4 ohm speaker in them you will only get half the volume. i just put a kenwood kw-xr610 receiver in, buy the gm tuner/amp bypass harness, part number 120701857, and 4 new speakers. you will have approx $270 and have a nice system. the front speakers, if they are like a 92, will have to have the connection plate cut off of the old speakers and installed to the new 4" speakers; not a hard job. take a hacksaw blade and just cut the plate off. you will need a high speed grinder to help custom fit them onto the new speaker. the cdm box is the biggest pain to get out. access it from the bottom of the right side of the dash. you will lose your religion, but the by-pass harness will use 3 plugs from the cdm box. i just left the cdm box out of the vehicle because you will need the extra room for the other 10 feet of harness they send you. some cdm boxes are located in the right rear of the vettes, but crutchfield is the most knowledgeable of anyone out there for your install. the radio is a complete replacement for your old one, if the radio is the same as the 92. don't know much about vettes so that is why i am all over the place with advise. but, if your radio is the same you will have to cut out part of the plastic where the back of the radio use to sit in its hangar. the instructions from crutchfield have all of this in the package.

i would almost bet.. that somewhere in one of the two corvette magazine this was covered in an article...
or... perhaps in the car audio magazine on this site...
