1991 Corvette wiper problem

My 1991 vette has a problem with the wipers. It appears that the drivers side wiper cannot clear the hood. I have bought a brand new wiper arm but still has the problem. With the wipers in the parked position and i turn them on the drivers side wiper will get caught for a minute and when it finally clears the hood the wiper blade gets torn off. I was told to get some low profile wipers and that would cure it but have not been able to find a wiper that will work. Anyone have a remedy?
