a few things....

is the coolant blowing out the open radiator cap opening as fast as you pour it in????

can you check the center disc on your radiator cap that is is actually spring loaded snugly against the rubber seal...
  you can just barely see the center disc below the rubber seal...

you can also try squeezing the upper radiator hose ...   does the system hold pressure.. or does the cap release it freely to the overflow bottle..  its supposed to hold pressure.. and release any thing over 13 pounds of pressure into the coolant recovery tank... when the coolant warms it expands...  when it cools it contracts and pulls the coolant back from the recovery bottle to keep the radiator totally full...

~~~~~~~~~~~~
how fast does the system build pressure...   2 minutes is expected... to full pressure in about 4 or 5 minutes from a cold start..
if the system is throwing coolant out as soon as you start the car cold... you might have a cracked head or blown head gasket...  on a 79.. probably a cracked head...   it happens....  its not the end.. pull the dipstick.. is there a milky mess there..  that would indicate a coolant leak...
many autoparts stores keep some of these in the loan a tool selection..  its called a radiator pressure tester... they are kept behind the counter..
a stuck thermostat may also cause problems like you might be having..
do you have an infrared thermometer ????
these are about 30 bucks at many parts stores.. come in very handy in diagnosing cooling system problems..
so... tests are...
does the system hold pressure...  USE the radiator pressure tester.. i normally check at 7 pounds pressure..
does the system throw coolant out as soon as you start the engine.. it should NOT...
pressure testing the system...
checking the engine oil dipstick for water/coolant contamination.. checking the oil filler cap for water/coolant contamination..
changing the thermostat.. putting in a new one..   192F is the original temp...  and with a fan clutch.. it needs to have that temp for the fan clutch which is also thermally controls by the hot water circulating through the radiator for it to cycle on..
perhaps a better description of what the cooling system is actually doing...
