OK, lets get this straight the first time.  In 1966 Penske's gran sport lost it/s front end in the middle of the night after a collision with a tr/4 triumph.  Various authors have reported this in many articles in a variety fo ways.  Somehow nobody seemed to remember the driver of this Triumph, or even tried to find out.  Since I was the driver of this car and had quite a discusssion with Roger about the wreck, I would like to get the facts straight, finally.  First, the car I drove was a TR/4 IRS #44, not a Morgan or any other variety.  Second, the cause of the wreck was Guldstrand dicing with three GT-40 Fords in the infield.  AS I was obviously not in their class, I pulled to the inside of the turn to let the cars pass on the outside, and was as far away as I could get from their line.  However, the Penske car spun to the inside and I had nowhere to go and no time to do it.  Regretfully, I could not avoid the Corvette, but at least didn't t-bone it.  Other than a broken headlight, my car suffered no damage, but at reported, the Vette lost most of its nose, along with the radiator and headlights.  AS was correctly reported, a private owner unknowingly donated a radiator. and two flashlights were attached to what was left of the nose.  Believe me, being passed on the back straight by a car with nothing much to let you know you were being passed but the roar of a TRACO 427 AT FULL BORE doing 180+ was quite a unnerving event.  Maybe Scott Teater and other of your authors will finally get the facts straight.   If anyone would like to discuss this, feel free to drop me a E/mail at bob@kingham.com.
