I have a 99 vette that ran out of gas. The battery ran down also. I charged the battery and turn the key to on and the fuel pump relay starts chattering, (I switched the relay with another one and it had no effect) the right front running light begins blinking rapidly, a rapid clicking is heard under passenger side dash, and finally an intermittant buzzing is coming from the engine compartment. The engine turns over normally but will not start. At first it would start briefly then die this happened several times. Now the engine turns over but will not start. So, is there anything I need to do to the fuel system to get it started? Any suggestion will be much appreciated since the weather is great and I am getting anxious to drive.  Thanks

first... is the security light on when you try to start the car...  if it is... you might have a  problem with the anti theft system...

second...  i seem to recall reading a TSB about a terminal block where the battery positive wire connects to before the starter.. and that connection burning do to it not being tight enough and melting the plastic..

so you might disconnect the battery.. find that terminal block on i think the drivers side of the engine compartment.. inspect the wire terminals on that...   replacement terminal blocks should be available at every chevy dealership...

third  get two friends....  the fuel tanks are on both sides of the car...  if they can reach the bottom of the fuel tanks... have them pound hard on the bottoms of the tanks...while you crank the engine....

the fuel pumps only get power for the first 2 seconds when you turn on the key...  and are powered again while cranking the engine....    by both the fuel pump relay and the 3 wire oil pressure switch when the oil pressure is up...

this pounding on the bottom of the tank will usually get a worn out fuel pump started in about 80% of the dead pump cars...     if this works.. you  are probably going to need fuel pumps ...

running a car low on fuel and running it out of fuel is really hard on the fuel pumps... they are cooled and lubed by the gasoline flowing through..

forth..  can you have somebody turn the key on...  while you feel the relays.. see which ones are buzzing..

Hey Thanks, I will try those suggestions. If someone catches us banging on the fuel tanks, I will tell them we are on punk'd.
