My traction control is allowing some wheel spin when under full throttle in 1st gear, and sometimes in 2nd around 3000 rpm.  This occurs after you apply full throttle after you begin moving.  You can feel the spin, plus it leaves faint black marks on the pavement, and it continues in first until you have reached about 60, and near the top of the revs.  The local Chevy dealership say this is normal, but I disagree.  I thought the traction control was to eliminate wheel spin, except at the intial spin that causes the traction control system to begin compensating.  I will admit that the spin is controled, and not "smoking" the tires, but it makes me nervous that it is happening.  Who is correct?
Thank you,
G. Lyndon Milek

traction control limits the overspeed of the drive wheels.    it does not stop them from spinning altogether ...

the traction control computer can only know where the limit of traction is when the tires are slipping slightly..

it has to do this as there are too many variables in surface conditions...

so  are you on ICE________   loose rocks ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,    dirt  .......................     or a VHT coated drag strip...  the amounts of traction available to the tires is unknown to the computer ...  until it sees how much the tires slip...

just like anti locks brakes don't stop the tires from making short little skids as the system pulses the brake pressure to keep the wheels just on the verge of lock up...

by the way.. you might want to come back ... log in....   click this thread...    on the lower left corner is an edit post link... and remove your visible email address...

the really neat thing is doing this in the dark... and having a friend video tape the rear wheels.. see if you can get the rear brake rotors to glow while in traction control... as its probably the brake calipers applying along with the electronic throttle backing off slightly to do the  actual traction control....

now if you want to have some fun.. try a car with stability control...  it can activate the brakes on one wheel or more to change the way the car or  SUV reacts while cornering..
