Back in the fall of 2003 I got my first Corvette. A red 1986 C4 with 80,000 miles in medium shape and fell in love. I immediately subscribed to about 3 magazines and after a year or so decided to just get Corvette Fever. It came every month, its articles helped me resolve several problems I was having, they always seemed to have the right answer, the right pictures, and before long I was crusin' fast and having fun. I later got a 1998 C5 in great shape and still the information kept coming. I looked forward each month to the tech pages and glitch fixes. I was a real happy camper. Then a couple of months ago, conveniently just after I renewed my subscription, I got the news the Corvette Fever was a victim of budget cuts, etc. I suddenly started getting a real "metro-sexual magazine” called Vette. I still can't believe it. Not really bad, large type, lots of pictures, but not as informative. For example, Corvette Fever had articles about Vettes and each one had a Spec. Sheet with the HORSEPOWER listed along with the other crap. In Vette, no such listing. You have to search the article for the HORSEPOWER rating and sometimes it's not even there. I want to tell you guys, I don't care about the hypereutectic pistons, the nodular iron crankshaft, the Bremo brake pads, and all the other stuff in your elusive spec. sheet. I care about the HORSEPOWER and how fast it goes. That's what determines whether I like the car or not. The spec. sheets in Corvette Fever were at the end of each article and included the HORSEPOWER, the spec. sheets in Vette aren't in each article, maybe one or two, and when they are there is no mention of the HORSEPOWER. The articles have interesting information like who autographed floor mats, or double welting on the two tones, sky blue seat cushions, or that the color of his car matches his guitar picks or the paint on his toenails, but many times not mention of the HORSEPOWER of the vehicle. Personally, that's the first thing I want to see and maybe the rear wheel horsepower too. I'm not the light-footed metro-sexual type that it seems that you're trying to appeal to. I'm a heavy-footed heterosexual that likes to repair his own stuff, takes corners way too fast, races Porsches on the freeway, that needs to know the HORSEPOWER, and how to fix the things on my Vette. In short I really have Corvette Fever, but not anymore. Some Gucci wearing, bean counting, left coast "suit" took that away from me, and that crap about Corvette Fever sound too much like disco fever, well you know what you can do with that theory. You would think that the metro-sexual types would like disco fever, anyhow. I know that you guys are gonna do what you’re gonna do no matter what I think or say and I’m sure this won’t be printed, although Corvette Fever did printed a couple of my letters, but I needed to vent and see I maybe I could get my money back or at least include the HORSEPOWER rating in the spec. sheet because right now I’m sort of unhappy. Besides, every time I type vette the spell check underlines it in red. Dan Birch Ortonville, MI unomabolzich@msn.com
