Hi Hope you can help. MY O/D is almost always on .Once it's over the 142 temp it's engauged in all the gears, even first. ( I replaced the 1-2 shaft sensor) Even with the O/D switch off, the dash light flickers along with the engaugment. I've changed the fluid and filter, removed the console switch. Flickers when the wires are apart. Wondering about an aleged relay near the mastercylinder ? Found two one on top of the other I'd be happy just to make it mannual O/D by the switch! Thanks Randy

to start.... check this link for the proper Throttle valve adjustment...

i will do some research.. but i might not get back till saturday night.. its late... and i have a full day tomorrow..
this might help also..

but then you might already have it...
looks like you might have a bad overdrive relay.. or a short between 2 wires on the 901 circuit.. that leads to the pressure switch and the overdrive solenoid..
there are several power wires in the harness to the transmission.. and it might have gotten pinched at some point in time... i have also found.. on some cars... usually the coolant and air temp sensor circuits where twisted pairs are used.. the insulation has fallen off the wires... and they short together..

Hi Thanks for the help. Lots of things to look for! You'll have to talk me through the cable adjustment, read the proceedure a few times, seemed counterdicting? Where is the ALCL connector and the O/D relay? I seem to be up to my shory hairs in relays. I have found one on the drivers inner fender under the mastercylinder, two are just inboaed of the brake booster one stacked on the other. Am I getting close? With the dash light flickering, sometimes driving bump induced, I like the crossed wire or relay idea. It dosen't have to be warmed up to have a flicker but undo the concosole switch wires and the light is stronger not solid. Thanks Randy

here is the 85 to 88 TPI component locator...

relay 16 seems to be to the side of the power brake booster...
i will have to go back and reread the TV cable adjustment... i will have to look again... what i posted below may NOT be correct... there are 2 sections to that link... the left for adjustment.. the right for readjustment..
the normal way to do it on other transmissions... is to get ahold of the casing to the rear of the bracket... use a screw driver or something to depress the TAB that locks the casing to the casting end... when you depress the tab.. the casing will change position... you want to yank it back... and release the tab... then work the throttle lever one time Engine off.. to wide open throttle... this should pull the cable casing forward slightly.. making little clicking noises. while you are doing the first WOT with your hands.. this should be the correct adjustment...
but i will go back and take a look at the instructions..
i think the flickering is your problem... something is causing the overdrive circuit to get power when its not supposed to...
i like prying relays out of their cube to clean and inspect the contacts... its amazing that some relays you can carefully remove the spring... work the lever out of place. then clean and burnish the contacts... then carefully reinstall the spring...

Hi, I think we are on to something, I have'nt looked at the sight you just sent me yet, But I had my wife watch the light while I jiggled around relays and harness. Long story short the relay on the bottom of the stack ( of course) right of the brake booster had ALL the wires leading to the connector, bare and touching through the grime, for about an inch. I've cleaned, seperated, and siliconed and am allowing to dry over night. I'll do that cable adjust thing tomorrow and go for a drive. Thanks Randy

well that saves the next step ... as there is a fellow over on the corvettefever.com forum who's thinking of going to a 5 or six speed box instead of the 4+3... which is actually 7 forward.. HMM...
less for more.. i think,,,,
oh yea... there 2 corvette forums... and dozens more... ...
