C2 SB angle plug headers

I've built an all aluminum 386" SB, with Brodix Track I angle plug heads, for installation in my '66 C2 Coupe.  In mock-up, the #6 plug tip is only  1/4" away from the tube. There would be no way to R&R the plug or install a boot. The headers are Hooker Super Comp, ceramic-coated, under chassis. Does anyone have an off-the-shelf header for this application?

are you already using the really short spark plugs?????

and the high temp fiber sleeves over the wire boot ends to protect them from burning...

try this link for searching out other headers..

http://www.summitracing.com/search/Department/Exhaust/Part-Type/Headers/Make/CHEVROLET/Model/CORVETTE/Year/1966/Header-Style/Full-length/?Ns=Rank%7cAsc

what length and seat type spark plugs do those heads use...

????   most aluminum heads use a .750" reach...  gas

here is the info for your heads...

http://www.brodix.com/heads/track1.html

here is the sizes for the spark plugs.. that brodix recommends for gasoline
NGK Racing plug stock number on package4554    spark plug number R5671A-8
Racing Plug,
14mm Thread Size,
19mm (3/4") Reach,
5/8" (16mm) Hex Size,
Gasket Seat, Non-Resistor,
Solid Terminal Nut,
V-Power (V-Grooved Center Electrode),
.031" (0.8mm) Gap,
Heat Range 8

Accel/Spark Plug - Performance
Part Number: 0414S

Accel/Spark Plug - Performance
Part Number: 0416S
are the two,  3/4 reach.. 5/8 hex gasket seat shorty spark plugs for headers... that accel markets designed for most after market aluminum heads...

other people with similar problems have used a spacer plate between the cylinder heads and the headers...  if there is room  to space it back... but you need a LOT of room...

you might want to look and see if ARP makes... long studs.  with a hex in the middle to unscrew them, and so you can tighten them into the back of the bolt hold.. and use nuts... if there is room... so you can loosen the nuts and slide the header back to keep it lined up while you change spark plugs..    you don't have to install six studs.. only a pair... and you could use them that have a 3/4" of thread on the end.. and an inch or so on the other end.. with a smooth inch or two between them... use a spacer under the nuts on the studs so you can tighten the nuts... this gives you a nice smooth shank to slide the headers in and out on...    just an idea...

you have to see how much room you have to slide the headers out away from the heads.... or the point might be MOOT..   this will prevent the header from dropping down and shearing off the spark plugs..

only an idea...

Thanks Wayne...the 386 was made up from engine parts about my shop.  Haven't used too many straight plug heads (except for 461's on vintage racing 327's) in a while.  I've searched around for shelf headers for this application, but they specify L-98 but NOT for Edelbrock angle plug heads.  The Brodix have virtually the same configuration.  Short plugs aren't short enough!
The Hooker headers are coated, so modifying them is not an attractive option.
The other choice, of course, is to make a right side header and coat it.
My thought is that if I have to do that, I might as well install My alum. 434 SB2.2, make headers and be done with it.
I think the 386 could find a good home somewhere.
Thanks for your indulgence.
