C3 stuck in first gear

The other day I was in a parking lot and shifted out of 1st to neutral, when I let go of the clutch I stalled out. Now either because of this or the reason this happened I am now stuck in first gear but my shifter feels like its in neutral.
I can still drive it in first as well as engage the clutch peddle to coast, but I'm still stuck.

Anybody have any ideas how to fix this?

This is a 69 corvette with a 350 engine and the original transmission. thx.

no... this is an easy one to do.. but hard to reach...   the shifter must be slightly worn...  or needing a proper cleaning..

what has happened is the shift lever has stayed in gear.. while the gear shift has moved out of the slot and into neutral position...

what has to be done..  set the parking brake.. climb under the drivers side of the car where you can grab the levers on the drivers side of the transmission.. the middle lever..  push it forward about an inch..   if you push it forward 2 inches.. it will be in second gear ... with the gear shift still in neutral...

what's a shame.. hurst got bought up.. as far as i know the new owners no longer rebuild these shifters...

there are several articles in the various magazines and online about freshening them up ..

why does this happen..  the inside of the shifter has 3 levers...  the bottom of the upper handle has a rod that moves them one at a time ... there are flat pieces of steel between the lower levers.. this prevents the rod from being able to select more than one at a time...  but when the separator plates wear..  it is possible to not pull straight and have the rod jump out of the slot and the lever jump back into gear...

there is NOTHING wrong with the transmission..  this problem is all in the shifter...

warning.. you can drive it into a driveway.. so the middle of the car is up in the air..  or up a driveway  curb facing the wrong way to get the left front of the car up in the air.. so you can get under..    i really have to warn you that if your Parking brake does not hold.. you can get run over when you pull it out of gear...

if you have AAA... a tow truck guy can lift the car for access..  don't let him tow you to a shop..  he may try it..  its just pulling on the center lever...

getting all the bottom shifter levers back in the neutral position..
