i had my steering gear box off .bought a new one on ebay .it had the wrong shaft for the pitman arm had to put the old one back on. rebuilt the control valve .and the slave cylander. put it back together started car to adjust the control valve it is turning the steering wheel violently back and forth.. what would cause this to happen. it all most tore off the slave cylander. what did i do wrong help.

you have the pressure and return hoses on the control valve switched...

or the hoses to the assist ram...

one set or the other...

i had a friend do that one his mid 60's impala..    scared the heck out of him...    when he started the motor ... back and forth.. back and forth...

changed the hoses...  works great...

will try that today . i was going to reach in through the driver side window to shut off the motor. was afraid the steering wheel would break my arm. thanks again
