I am thinking of buying a really nice 1989 corvette convert. The air is not working. It sat up for the winter and when summer came it would not blow cold. I test drove it today around town in traffic. Stop and go type traffic and the temp. reading got up to 225. The guy said the electric fan comes on at 225 and that it has never ran hot. Is this normal temp range for this car? Also will the electric fan come on if the air is not working or does it come on at 225 if air is on or not? I really like this car but I need the answer to this temp question tonight as I am suppose to let him know if I want the car or not. Thanks

the corvette C4 ecm... with tuned port fuel injection.. turns the radiator cooling fan on at 228F.... when looking at the scan tool ...
here is a link to what the normal scan tool data should be..
http://repairguide.autozone.com/znetrgs/repair_guide_content/en_us/images/0900c152/80/06/7e/6a/large/0900c15280067e6a.gif
warning.. DO NOT PROBE THE CONNECTOR ON THE COOLING FAN RELAY>.
if you probe the connector and short the ecm wire to the power or to the ground you will burn out the ECM...
but only that circuit..
the ecm pulls the relay winding to ground to activate the relay...
there is usually on the right side of the engine.. between the 6 and 8 spark plugs a cooling fan control switch.. the air conditioning also has a pressure switch to turn on the electric cooling fans when the pressure builds up in the condenser..
