Hello ,

I have a 78 with a 4spd and the L48,  all stock with a Quadrajet 4bbl. What are the stock cam specs for the L48 and what is the quadrajet profile?

I would like to replace the intake with an aluminum intake and replace the quadrajet with a Holley and replace the stock cam with something that has more thump to it.
I was thinking of a Demon carburator ( 600cfm ??? ) with a dual plane aluminum intake .... but am not sure of the cam  ... any suggestions for any of these that would work together?

I 'm not looking for a racing setup , but something more than what the L48(185hp) provides.

thanks.

this has been sitting here for a few days...  waiting an answer...

there are JUST so many thousands of ways to go.

one question.. does it have to be smog tested..??????

one thing.. everything you take off.. crate up and save..    the quadra jet is a really good carb .. the L48 really just needs more cam...

i always liked the H230 grind from american racing cams out near glendora ca..  but i don't have the specs any more..

you will also need to add some cam break in additive.. so the lobes don't go flat during cam break in....

read this...

there are tons of cam grinders out there...  just waiting for you to walk through their doors...  depending on where you live...

you can also download a bunch of cam catalogs and read them..

if you are going to swap carbs and intakes... spend the extra few bucks .. get a low cost air fuel ratio gauge..  and install an oxygen sensor in the head pipes...  this will make it really easy to tune and jet the replacement carb....

look at JC Whitney for air fuel ratio gauges...
