Just bought a 1978 vette, but the AC compressor was removed and never replaced as the guy didn't finish his rebuild. I am new to Vettes and don't know product vendors, specs, etc. and would appreciate any help in learning what it will take to put in the new AC compressor system. I appreciate any and all help.

just curious... i guess that since you have no compressor .. you don't know which one was installed...
perhaps someone will know.. A-6 or R-4.. i don't know this off the top of my head...
you may have to find another 78 gm car or pick up truck for brackets if they are missing..
hoses and most other parts are available..
you might stop by a good AC repair shop... some will be able to help you .. plan on spending a bunch of money and having the system converted to the new style freon.. H134A as R-12 is impossible to get.. nobody will fault you for the change in freon or the adaptors on the lines..
