I was thinking of rebuilding my 1975's l48 as a 383 and thought it would be a better idea to go with something like this (I want a reliable driver with power) and store the numbers matching motor.
I have TH400 and 348 gears. Thanks:cheers:

just a thought.. yes.. storing your complete numbers matching motor is the best idea...

buying a motor over EBAY...   many people have  done that .. many have good luck.. a few don't...

depending on where you live...   you might have a lot of options...  including brand NEW 383HT motors from gm...

383 crank rod and piston kits are available from many sources...  drop them into any 350 block... that you have machined locally...

there are probably 50 articles on building 383 chevy motors on the various magazines on this site..

start with this..

http://www.chevyhiperformance.com/sch/02/383/articles/index.html

there are a bunch more here... but mixed in with a few mopar 383's.

there is at least a weeks worth of reading there...    knowledge is power... and if you read those articles.. you will know the good and bad combos...

there are also millions of ways to build a small block chevy...

no more than 10 percent deposit down..  if you plan on buying a motor.. unless you can walk up and shake hands and touch the motor...   most legit shops won't ask for a deposit on a conventional in stock motor..
