I currently have a Hurst short shifter. It's very notchy and is very difficult to shift from 4th to 5th and sometimes to reverse. I have gotten used to it, but refuse to go back to stock. I am willing to purchase another one if I can find one that works. Who makes the best short shifter that works through every gear.
Help...

i went looking for your earlier posts... gone..?? what model ..??? C4... C5...
i have run into other cars with hard to shift problems... and it was the clutch not releasing completely causing the problem..
worn clutch pedal bushings at the pivot and at the clutch master push rod connection..
worn clutch master cylinder.. where the seals drag across rough areas in the bore.. and on the upstroke. they can pull a tiny bit of air in.. causing a soft clutch pedal...
when the clutch master bore wears... the fluid displacement is reduced.. this causes the clutch slave cylinder to not full stroke to fully release the clutch..
some of the models have a restriction in the line to stop you from dropping the clutch and tearing stuff up.. this might keep any damaged system from fully releasing fast enough for you to shift..
i have had some cars pass though the shops i have worked with.. that you had to shut the motor off to get the car in gear..
improper steps machined into the flywheel will also cause terrible headache that won't go away without replacing or a proper redo of the flywheel... not to what it was.. but to proper specs... so many flywheel shops.. just get it close.. i have gotten toyota stepped flywheels back... with a single surface .. the fool in the machine shop told me that it would work... just use a different pressure plate.. i almost hit him with the flywheel..
i hope this helps... i know that clutch and shifting problems are hard to deal with... so post a year and model.. i can try to do more..

Thanks, I have a 2003 C5. If I switch back to the stock shifter, it works fine. I heard that some aftermarket shifters are better than others. Really hope it's not a clutch issue.
