make sure the choke is fully opening...     down below the choke linkage is a rocker lever..  this prevents the secondaries from opening when the choke is on...    an important thing...

on the right end of the secondary throttle shaft is a steel pin with a little bend and a flattened end... this contacts the little lever...    when the choke is fully open it lets the lever flip slightly out of the way so the secondaries can open...

i would on a cold motor ... hold the choke open.. and look for the lever and see if it is free to move.. i have had them get gummed up... a little carb spray or brake cleaner.. will sometimes wash the deposits off... if you intake is painted ... you might want to wad up some rags under there to absorb any drips from the spray...

wait.. we are talking about a QuadraJet...

the 4th picture in this shows the secondaries lock out lever

Yes it is a quadra jet.  A friend recommended I wire open the back two so I did that, but when I started the car the smoke just rolled out of the back. Did not like that took the wire back off

good thing he did not tell you about the brick on the gas pedal to see if the connecting rod bolts are tight test..

were you able to copy and paste the link i posted in a new window??????/

you should tell your friend.. that you could not figure out how to do it ... so you just wired the throttle open ..  and started it..   now it won't start...

there is a search link above the forums link above...  put in the term...   quadrajet     q-jet,   quadra jet...    you will find a bunch of articles on it...

read up on it... you will learn a lot... there are at least 14 articles on it.. from the various magazines...
