2000 Vette, the display on the Climate control is very weak. At first, I could tap on the display and it would come back. Now it is barely visible, and tapping does nothing. Is this a Floresent display or a bulb? Could this be a loose connection, or someting that needs replaced? Is it fairly easy to remove?

without having taken one apart yet...
i would say carefully removing it.. figuring out how it comes apart... examining the circuit board with a magnifying lens for cracks in the solder joints... tiny ones... about 2/3rds of the way up the little solder mounds...
static protection is a good idea.. wrist band from radio shack that has a ground wire clipped to the ground on the circuit board.. not the power side..
this happens on a lot of electronics... including corvettes... you might check the tech links above... see if there is a story on it already..
somewhere on the web.. there is a good article on repairing the digital dash board..
