I am the owner of a 1978 vette and in the process of converting my non tilt steering column to a tilt column but found that the tilt column is shorter than the non tilt column by about 3 inches. what do i need to do to make this conversion work? do I need to change the steering box as well? do I need to get a different rag joint connection? not sure what I'm missing? any help out there! Thanks, Mike

are you sure its the right column...
is it possible that the steering box end ... which is telescopic... has been pushed in.... remember the chevy chevette.... their column you could unbolt it from the rag joint and push it all the way back into itself... so you could get the starter out...
the only other thing.... that might throw off your installation.... is the bracket that mounts it to the dash board... on backwards..??? i do columns all the time... and once in a while ..i still put one on backwards... its only 4 bolts to swap it around... and is it the right bracket...????? there are differences between models and between years...
