Where does all that "Tranny Fluid" come from???

My wife had the fluid on the tranny checked after it was hot, I believe it is an R - 700. It is an automatic overdrive in an "86" C - 4. The boy had her "shut off" the engine to check it!
WRONG!!!!
She says "he only added 8 ozs." But I find that hard to believe.
I have driven it 20 miles, stopped and with engine running checked the fluid and it now shows a half quart low.
Here is the problem. Now when I shut it off it drains fluid on the floor - not much but still enough to be concerned about, and yes there is no doubt it is tranny fluid.
Could this be from the rubber sleeve that joins the dipstick to the tranny???

UPDATE
We took the 86 C-4 out and drove it about 10 rural miles to get everything warmed up. I checked the fluid and it was 8 ozs. low Added the eight ounces back and then drove it about another 55 to 60 miles. At the end of the trip we checked the fluid level and it was on the money.
Put it in the garage and shut it down, and over the next 24 hrs. it leaked off the eight ounces again.
I am begining to wonder if I have the right dipstick, or if it is the boot seal on the dipstick holder.
Bad thing about Corvettes, an Alcan hydraulic jack has a hard time getting under it and if you can you don't have much room to work.
Let you know later what I find out.

several ways to see under a corvette... got an old plastic framed wall mirror... slide it under the car... light up the bottom with a fluorescent flood lamp... (very little heat)..
if it is leaking from the bottom of the bell housing .. it may be the front pump seal... going bad... there was one of many problems with those popping out ... drilling the drain back hole out larger while the trans and pump is torn down is one way to make sure it never happens again... not something for the average DIY guy.
if it is leaking from the passenger side of the transmission.. usually close to the front.. but off center.... it may be the dipstick tube seal.. or the throttle valve cable or seal... once in a while the throttle valve cable housings will pull apart...
i have also had the transmission cooler lines leak... i just fixed an 84 crossfire with an aftermarket aluminum radiator that had the lower transmission cooler line crossthreaded into the radiator... i found one fitting at autozone.. that was able to thread into the radiator.. and then the line into that... i will post the dorman part number... on an edit in a little while...
oh.. i had to take the radiator out to get this fitting in straight... along with slight modifications to the openings in the shroud...
its not listed on the dorman products site... but it is available at autozone.com... in the drawers in the rear... have the clerks look for 499-014.1 i know there is a motormite number for it.. but i cannot cross it right now...
they work with 5/16 inverted flair fittings...
