Fuel Injectors?

Hello all,
My 1990 corvette gets driven about every two weeks, and then only around the neighborhood.  It's got 40,000 miles and is in beautiful shape.  The other day, after about 10 minutes on the road, the car started running rough, then completely quit and would not start.  After a tow to the dealer and a diagnostic check, the dealer told me I have six of eight fuel injectors bad, and it will be $2100.00 to replace.  YEEOUCH.

Rather than emptying my wallet, I chose to drive the car home home from the dealer.  It started and ran for ten minutes...I filled up the tank the rest of the way (it was at 1/2 tank), and put in some fuel system cleaner.  She quit between the gas station and my house and refused to start...about a 150 yard push to my driveway.  Both times the car quit, it was after about 10-11 minutes of driving, and then would not start again until the next day.

Questions:
1.  Is this a ridiculous price?  The fuel injectors are visible, right on top of the engine.
2.  How hard a job is it to pull the injectors, and is there somewhere I can go to have them cleaned?
3.  Could it be bad gas?  Fuel Filter?
Any suggestions?

Hey Yogurt,

* Yes that price is too high.

* It is very easy to change your injectors yourself. Considering the age of your car, by the time you pay someone to clean and flow check them you could have purchased a new set and changed them yourself.,.....and you would have NEW injectors!
* Its possible your gas is bad, especially if its been in your tank a long time. I would replace the fuel filter if you have not done so in a long time. In fact, if you think your gas is good, you may try replacing your fuel filter first and see if it runs better. Considering the age of your car, you are due to service or replace your injectors. ~ Charles ~
