I HAVE 1980 VETT IT RUNS HOT OVER 200 WHEN I SHOT OFF MOTOR IT COMES OUT OVER FLOW

first things first you should replace the thermostat, probably with a 160 degree unit just to get the coolant flowing sooner.  Next thing you'll want to do is look into your fan.  If it's engine driven, the fan clutch may be shot, and you may need to get the assembly replaced.  If it's electric, it might not be working any longer or just running slow and may need replaced.  Also, when was the last time you flushed your radiator?  You may also want to look into replacing the stock brass radiator with a newer aluminum model as well.  If all that stuff is already done or checks out, you could be shopping for a new engine in the near future... but I don't think that's ncecessary quite yet.
