I have a 1985 C4 the engine diagnostic gives a MAF sensor error. On acceleration the engine hesitates something awful. However in my experience when the MAF sensor is not working the car barely runs, if at all. We believe that the Throttle Position Sensor is maladjusted. Is the TPS and the MAF connected to each other in a way in which one will cause the other to fail?

Nope. I've had a GM car with a bad MAF sensor before, once the engine gets warmed up it's runs alright, but when the motor's cold it runs like a complete ***
If the computer's telling you bad MAF, that's what it is.

Try replacing the MAF sensor burn off relay, located on passenger side firewall. Good luck.

Try unplugging the MAF sensor. This is one of the tests that was in my shop manual. Once this done the car ran much better. good luck

85 Computers ARE A Dinosaur when a code is set they go into limp mode and run like crap, disconnect battery to clear code. see how long it takes and when the CEL comes back on. Even a bad starter can cause a voltage spike while cranking and set Maf code, it happened to me, starter had a flat spot on armature and would set Maf code only when starting. By the way 85's do not have burn off relays on firewall they have a very expensive module under dash but its probably not that. they have had lots of problems with maf sensors and some ecm problems too. You just have to start changing out parts and see what works.
