Increasing Rocker Arm Ratio

I just read this article
http://www.vetteweb.com/tech/vemp_0703_corvette_rocker_arms/1996_vette_install.html

I know there's an answer to this but I am having a hard time wrapping my brain around it. So when you increase the rocker arm ratio, how does the rocker still make contact with the valve+spring? It seems that it would be too long and would stick out past the point of contact...so how does the rocker arm still maintain contact with the top of the valve when it is longer?

Also, can you only increase rocker arm ratio on pushrod engines? Not OHC?

You're not toally inccorect on this one. Yes, you can have an issue when increasing the rcoker ratior where the rocker arm tip doesn't line up corrrectly on the valve stem.

To fix this problem, it usually requires a shorter/longer pushrod depending on where the rocker is lining up at, and/or lash caps on top of the valvestem.

It's more difficult to do on an OHC engine, but I've seen some of the Ford guys do it with the modular engines.

increasing the ratio is not a matter of making the rocker longer! they just mfg it with the tip or the cup where they want it!
