HAVING ISSUE REMOVING SPINDLE ASSEMBLY TO REPLACE BEARINGS ON 76 CORVETTE, BACKING PLATE LOOSE,CASTLE NUT OFF,DRIVE SHAFT LOOSE,ROTOR OFF...IS ASSEMBLY PRESSED IN? THANKS 140OLDCARS

You said spindle assembly, but it sounds like you're talking about the rear end of the car?
I don't believe that assembly was pressed in. More than likely, after 30+ years of being in the car, it's probably rusted in a bit. Spray it down with some PB Blaster, let that soak in, then hit it with a ball pean hammer in a few spots to help break it loose.

The outer bearing is pressed on the spindle. They were hard to remove when they were new.I've had to use a torch many times to get them out. Good luck

My mechanic torched it off, however it damaged the axle and had to be replaced. So be careful.
