I was thinking about getting a new car and I didn’t like any of the new cars. I decided to take another look at an old favorite the corvette. I want to get a 97 or newer corvette with a bunch of miles to drive down the price, I hope that the car its self will be good condition no major issues other than the motor. Now this is when i don’t know where to go. Option A rebuild the engine and add performance parts. Option B (my favorite) install a LS2 and then upgrade parts as I see fit. I will not consider using a turbo of any kind mostly do to price. Is this possible? My budget is roughly $20,000 to $25,000 cheaper if at all possible.

Try and get as new of a car as you can afford as the newer vettes have all the problem issues fixed that plagued the years before. I personally own a 2002 C5 convertable that I just installed an STS twin turbo system on. Let me tell you that this is now the fastest and most awsome sounding car I have ever owned and I can't go anywhere without being stopped for people to look at it. The cost was very reasonable and installation was a breeze. Go to ststurbos.com and see for yourself I'm sure you will be very impressed.

Finding a high mileage Vette can be an interesting problem, since high mileage is usually about 30k!
Here's what I'd suggest. Find a '99 or '00 Vette with the LS1. Yank the LS1 out and rebuild it, add a stroker crank and L92 heads, beef up the cam and valvetrain, put a good set of forged pistons and rods in it, and have yourself a 450-500 horse screamer on your hands. No need for turbos or anything like that.
You could also get yourself a 6.0L truck motor, stroke it out, put the L92 heads on it, better cam and valvetrain, install and go roast your tires every day.

from one young guy to another... first things first buy the car. then you can talk abut what you want to do with it.. chances are you're gonna spend some money gettin her ready to handle all those ideas. ive had my 98 coupe since i was 18 and it's takin alot(time and money) to get her where she is today. good luck and my votes for a 98!! it was car of the year!
1998 C5 Coupe "omenous" is my license plate too!!
