1989 L-98 placed in a 87 Monte Carlo SS but having drivability problems. No codes on the scanner, but check engine lite is on and does not run smooth & dies when cold. Painless wiring harness & speed sensor, updated chip for the conversion. Or anyone in West Michigan that can tune it up. Located near Grand Rapids, Michigan.Headers with flowmasters & K&N cone filter, stock Bosch MAP sensor.

When you installed the L98 motor, did you install the computer that was originally with the L98, or did you hook it up to the computer that came with the Monte Carlo?
Also, is it burning/leaking oil? I would take it to a shop and have them perform a pressure test to see if any of the cylinders have gone bad, and also have them check the fuel injectors. It could be something as simple as improper computer settings, but it honestly sounds more mechanical...

Not running smooth and stalling when cold, sounds like you've got a sensor/computer problem. It could be the mass air flow meter, idle air control valve, or the MAP sensor.
When the engine warms up, how does it run?
