87 vette over heating

what can i do to get to cool off ive changed the water pump and the hoses and the radiator itself ive even did a pressure test and it was 28 psi on the cooling systemwhat could it be  

You didn't mention changing your thermostat. Did you change that piece? A stuck thermostat will cause your '87 to overheat. You've replaced everything else that could possibly be the culprit.

The only other possibility is that you've got a bad cooling fan motor, and/or coolant temp sensor that's not telling the fan to engage.  

I agree the thermostat is probably bad but why is the coolant fan not engaging?   Where is the coolant sensor located?

Check your cooling fan temperature switch.  It is located in the right cylinder head just behind the engine oil dipstick.  Unplug the electrical connector, turn your ignition switch to on, and ground it and the fan should come on.  If the fan comes on while doing this but does not come on when the engine temp is high - your thermoswitch is faulty.

Get yourself a Haynes repair manual for the Chevrolet Corvette 1984 thru 1991.....it has all this info in it.....good luck......let us know how it works out

I live in the San Joaquin valley and it is now 100+ degrees F. Is it ok to run a 190 degree thermostat?    What is the recommendation?  

Hi there. That little blurb is related to the number of posts you put up on the message board. The more posts you put up, the better the message gets.

We're gonna be modifying them again soon, and this one might be coming down. The comment comes from someone who claims to be a Corvette enthusiast and expert, yet one day said the phrase "They're nice cars, but I'd never own one" which was very ironic!  

I'd install a 160 degree thermostat for the hot summer months where you live. Unless you're not having any oveheating problems now. If the car stays at the proper temp now, don't mess with anything.  

Won't hurt to put in a 160 t-stat.  It will open up earlier and she will probably run a bit hotter than that as the fan swicth usually comes in about 180 or so. But, it should help keep your temps down when rolling.  

It should have two fans - one in front of the rad and one behind. Make sure they both operate and that the connections are good.

Is this Corvette STILL controlled by an ECU? If it is you'd be better off staying with the factory reccomended Stat changes in ambient air temp and mass air flow can change the mixture settings on your fuel injestion.  when you allow the engine to run cooler than is recomended you actually cause an overich condition to occur which results in poor mileage.  Not knowing the engine size and Vin Code means we can't tell you what wiring to check, other than a vague attempt to get you to test the  the thermocouple switch that controls the fan.  Some models have two switches one is a low limit that tells the fan when to shut off and one is a hi-limit switch  to turn it on.

But all vaguries aside the thermostat and the radiator cap ar the two cheapest parts in the cooling system and they are the easiest to replace. After that you're going to need to put out some more technical info, or buy a book
