Hi. I'm new to this forum but am a very proud owner of a 1966 corvette with an L72.
I recently wanted to find out in terms of numbers just what my water temp. was so i installed an autometer mechanical water temp. gauge.
I had a reading of 210 farenheit. Is this normal for a big block?
I was expecting to see about 180-190 but when it hit 210 i got really worried and shut down the motor immediately.

Hi there newcomer! that's a great Corvette to have, first year for the L72.

Iron big blocks in those Corvettes normally ran between 195-205 degrees at idle. When driving the motor should run about 190-195.

Was the car idling when the temp hit 210? did it stay there or keep climbing? Also, why did oyu have ot install another temp gauge? Is the factory one on the fritz?
