Hello again,
As most have probably read already, I'm slowly rebuilding my 1974, and I've basically decided to do the car in stages. Stage 1 is finally underway in getting an engine put together and installed, which should be done in a week or two tops. After that I'll be focusing on Stage 2, which will be to get the car streetable, Stage 3 will likely be installing an overdrive transmission, Stage 4 will likely be replacing the frame and upgrading the suspension to C4 spec. Stage 4 will be the most expensive which will take a while to be able to save up for, which is why Stage 2 is going to require refreshing my stock suspension, which is still all original and about 32 years old now, to be driven on for a year or more. Of course in doing this, the main pieces to replace will be the springs. Rather than replace the rear 9-leaf with another steel leaf spring, I would much rather go with the fiberglass spring route, which brings me to my current inquiry.
Will a rear fiberglass spring from a C4 fit a C3 without modification?
In trying to find this out, I haven't been able to locate a clear answer as of yet. Most inquiries online regarding the fiberglass springs said that they were introduced in 1980 and would carry over to 1996, which tells me that it could be the same. However, my voice of logic & reasoning in my head says the spring probably shouldn't because of the difference in wheelbases.
The only reason this is really an issue is cost savings alone. I already have the 1990 'vette salvage I bought for the suspension, but another fiberglass spring would cost another $300 at the least. Any information would be much appreciated. Thanks!
