I just became the owner of a 1984 corvette today. while driving it home I noticed a small letter D inside a square in the middle of the tach, just below the colored bar indicator and just above the displayed numerals. What is it and how do I make it stop flashing ? Your help will be greatly appreciated as it is very distracting while driving. Also it is only displayed there when the car is moving. Thanks Rick S

Contributor Walt Thurn replies:
It sounds like an indicator light for the overdrive. A D inside an O is for overdrive. The '84 and '85 overdrive indicators were located in the information panel above the radio. The '86 and newer cars had the indicator relocated to under the tach. My best guess is someone installed a newer ('86 up) cluster and it's blinking because it's not getting any signal. This does not hurt anything except to annoy the driver.
Taber Corvette Parts (421 Outer S. State St., Chandler, IN 47610 1-877-349-2838) still repairs/exchanges these clusters for around $300.
Hope this helps,
Walt
